Right now, Rourke Croeser just can't stop winning. The UCI Class 2 Karkloof Classic Festival,
promoted by Mr Price was set to be another
test for our young South African as he prepares for the World Cup in South Africa.
With a winning time of over 10 minutes and a faster lap than former U23 World Champion,
Burry Stander, it shows that Rourke will stop at nothing in his quest for perfection.
In his own words....
The last two weeks have left me feeling confident going into this weekends world
cup.
First off was The Mr Price Karkloof XC race, it was important for me to do well
here, as Mr Price are one of my Sponsors and there were some much needed UCI points
up for grabs. The XC track was nothing short of spectacular, the work the guys had
put into the track made it world class.
12:35 was our start time..
I got off to a smashing start, I managed to set the fastest lap of the day. Going
on to lap two I had a 2min lead and I knew it was all about keeping good lines and
being smooth. I felt good throughout the race and the gap kept growing. By the end
of the race the gap had opened up to 11min, I am really chuffed with how the form
is coming on.
Next up, was the marathon. This event is always hotly contested with guys like David
George, Max Knox and Brandon Steward on the start sheet. The legs were feeling a
little tender after the xc race the day before, but I was ready for action. A small
group of us got away early on in the race, David, Max, Brandon and myself. Unfortunately
a marshal led us in the wrong direction which made for a interesting chase back
to the front of the race. I was surprised with how good the legs were feeling and
made my presence felt at the front, David and Max got away on the the major climb
of the day which left me chasing alone.
I saw Brandon wasn't too far behind I decided to sit up and wait for him so we could
work together. Brandon and I worked well and crossed the line together in 4th and
5th place.
A huge thanks to Mr Price for a great event.
