Gorrick Round 1 - Mytchett, Surrey

Alex Baker Open Men 3rd
Chris Andrews Elite Men 2nd
Ben Roff Elite Men
Paul Beales Elite Men 5th

The final preparation for the Sunshine Cup in Cyprus was the local Gorrick race in Surrey. This came at the end of a very hard block of training for the riders and was designed to be a big test to some very tired legs. The course was excellent as you would expect with a Gorrick race and gave the riders plenty to keep them amused on a surprisingly dry course.

First to go was Alex who took the decision to take on the Open Senior Mens competition of over 80 riders. Showing his class Alex was in the leading group straight from the start and took control of the race for long periods before eventually finishing 3rd.

Chris, Paul and Ben took on the Expert/Elite field of over 15 riders and again it was the bright orange colours that could be seen heading out the race with all three riders in the leading group for the first lap. Ben pushed hard as he looked to replicate his junior race distance but at a higher pace while Chris got into his rythem and stuck like glue to the back of Pedal On rider Chris Minter. Paul was chasing the front few hard and settled into his own pace eventually finishing 5th. The fast start and longer distance took its toll on Ben as he tired towards the end of the race finishing in 8th position. Chris took another outstanding result with 2nd place for the second race in a row. It was a perfect end to a very hard block of winter training for the riders who will now head off to Cyprus for some training in warmer weather as well as a tough schedule of 5 races in 14 days as they compete in the Sunshine Cup against some of the worlds best!
