Matt made an impressive start to his Orange Monkey career at the 4^th round of the Gorrick series this weekend.  In his debut race for the team, Matt took 3^rd place in the Master’s category with a great display in difficult conditions at Frith Hill, Surrey.

Matt has given us an insight into how his race developed from the start…

 

“I was a little nervous before the race as I was eager to do well in my first event for Orange Monkey.

 

The conditions were very muddy and I knew it would be a hard race. I was grid at the front of the pack which didn't really help as I was almost elbowed off into a bush on the first turn and put down to around 10th place! I soon started picking off riders and after the 1st lap I was up to 5th. I had 4th and 3rd place in sight so I popped a Torq gel which helped a lot and passed both riders with ease. I came through for my last lap and some of the technical sections were deceiving as I thought 2nd place was a lot closer at one point. I took my last Torq gel to help me keep my pace high and tried to catch 2nd place but ran out of laps and finished in 3rd.

 

 I was happy with my first podium for the Monkeys - hopefully the first of many!”
